To the Dance

Foot-steps fall
Down patched streets that
Wind around
Quiet homes where the
Bright light of
Snapping fires casts rays
On elegant elms
That squat in well-
Pruned gardens. While

Of feet echo and I
See, faintly,

Lovely & lonely poetic, reminding myself of the many long walks I used to take alone, glancing into other’s windows, imagining the scenario of their lives.

I think there is more to this tale than meets the eye, as so often there is in your poetry. Smiles. It sounds as if the sight of the two of them dancing together was surprising / upsetting for some reason. Up to the reader to determine why perhaps.

I specially like: The sudden pat pat
    Of feet echo

The ending was a nice surprise ~

Thanks for participating in our first Quadrille ~

I like your breaking of stanzas…the separation and realization that brings. Well done.

Lots of emotion there, peace and tranquility, expectation, hope and disappointment in the end. Sometimes life works that way. We’ll played

There’s a question mark at the end, leading me to believe there was surprise at finding these two dancing together. A little mystery left us to decide just why that may be… Nicely done.

Like the ‘snapping’ fire—adds tone to this….and the personification of the elms–adds texture. Both add such a richness to 44 words 🙂

    A familiar road but, a surprising destination…she dances with him…so sad…

You’ve set a scene well within the first stanza. I too like how the stanzas break. And then the surprise couple and we’re left wondering, who are they?
    Nicely done!

I like how the flow of an innocent walk screeches to a halt at the end…in disbelief, in question. Very nice!
